AVENGERLAND RESOURCES

Firstly, you will need good maps of the area. For the Greater London area with road names, I would recommend a road atlas such as:

Collins Greater London Street Atlas

For spotting smaller features and getting around outside the Greater London area, you will definitely need the following Ordnance Survey Landranger maps:

Landranger Map 165: Aylesbury & Leighton Buzzard, Thame & Berkhamstead

Landranger Map 166: Luton & Hertford, Hitchin & St Albans

Landranger Map 175: Reading & Windsor, Henley-on-Thames & Bracknell

Whilst putting together the guide I use a number of books about the Avengerland series as ready reference to cast members, episode guides, dates etc. many of which are out of print. Here are a number of books which are currently available and that you may find of use:

The Complete Avengers : Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About the Avengers and the New Avengers

This is still the definitive book on the series and the perfect resource for dipping into for odd bits and pieces of information. If you want better information, you will have to watch the episodes.

The Avengers Companion

I like this book for the photographic content alone. I still use the French version rather that this English version but they are both equally pretty.

Roy Ward Baker: The Director's Cut

Roy Ward Baker worked on The Avengers, The Saint, The Persuaders!, Jason King etc.. This is the kind of book that the fans of classic British Television need. Roy Ward Baker gives an insight into the quality of the team that was involved in making these classic series.

The Prisoner

I grab this book when I require quick reference for THE PRISONER. It also has the advantage of being packed full of nice colour photographs

The Saint: A Complete History in Print, Radio, Film, and Television

Do not judge this book by its cover. This book is packed full of very detailed research on THE SAINT in all his incarnations up until the early Nineties. This is the opposite of the big picture books - loads of information, letters and appendixes in small print - a goldmine!
