Peter Brady is a brilliant young scientist working on the theory of optical density, and proves his theories in a laboratory accident with a reactor in which he becomes invisible. He goes home to his sister Jane and his niece Sally. Unfortunately, he is unable to reverse the effect. Sally is kidnapped and Jane is contacted by telephone, telling Brady to break into a bank and use his powers to steal money for her ransom.

Brady thinks she can help him regain visibility and manages to rescue her to carry on their experiments, but she is captured again and smuggled away in a coffin.

Brady learns about this when visiting his friend Simon Wallace at the theatre Barbara is working at, and sets out to clear her name.

Brady is sent to help Stephen Vasa, a prisoner on board a ship trying to leave the Iron Curtain by Sir Charles. Brady is tricked by Vasa's wife, Sonia, and walks into a trap as the ship where Vasa is held contains a radar system that can track his movements.

Professor Owens overstays his holiday in Italy, apparently addicted to gambling at the roulette wheels in the casinos, but forced to do so with his daughter Suzy held by gangsters. Brady uses his powers to help his sister win instead, and then has to save the Owenses from a plunge to their deaths from a cable car.

Now Brady must work to hide the evidence that Inspector Strang has collected to arrest Jenny.

Brady's friend, Captain Barry Finch, is trapped in a sand pit with a new type of bomb when demonstrating it to high ranking army officers. The bomb will explode if a shadow falls across it, and with Finch caught in a fall of sand, Brady has to work fast to help his friend.

A plane crash reveals that a canister of Uranium-235 was being smuggled into England, and Brady feels this is part of plot to launch World War III with atomic warfare. A noted pacifist is being tricked to help a scheme to place atomic bombs beneath every major capital of the world.
